Choosing the Spare Tire Bike Rack

Finding the right bike rack depends on many factors which include the number of bikes you need to carry, your budget for the rack, features you desire, and brand, but possibly the most driving issue is the type of vehicle you have and what other use it will have in addition to transporting bikes.

A spare tire bike rack is a great option for those with Jeep type vehicles and other styles which have a spare tire mounted on the back. Using a spare tire bike rack means that the tow hitch is free to be used to tow a vehicle, trailer or boat at the same time. It doesn’t matter if the spare tire is center mounted or off center if a spare tire bike rack is chosen with adjustable arms that can center the bikes regardless of the tire position.

The least expensive kind of spare tire bike rack uses straps to attach it to the tire assembly. These straps must be carefully secured to secure the bikes properly and prevent damage to them as well as to the vehicle. The higher grades of spare tire bike racks will have steel plate mounts that are very secure and stable and will be more expensive but much more durable and reliable.

For maximum protection for both the vehicle and the bikes, it is best to choose a brand of spare tire bike rack that features an anti-sway cradle or cradles for the ultimate in stability. Another choice to consider is whether to get a single arm or dual arm support in your spare tire bike rack. While there are excellent single arm models, many prefer the additional support points in the dual arm racks.

For the best security, a spare tire bike rack will have locking mechanisms both to secure the rack itself as well as each bike that it holds. Whether all needed locks are included in the purchase price or whether they need to be purchased separately varies from brand to bran.

You can find a spare tire bike rack for a single bike or you can choose a model that will hold as many as three bikes. Some racks will accommodate bikes of different sizes, but if this is an issue, consult with a sales representative to be sure your model will meet your needs.

Bike Racks Dot Com Worships a Brand New Idol

Yep, that wreck is absolutely as asphalt-eating terrible as it looks. It happened in the sleepy Northern California town of Santa Rosa not long ago. Santa Rosa is mostly known for its tide pools, logging industry, and the Pez Factory, but it also is a hotbed of bicycle activity. Bicycle enthusiasts can be found on just about any street corner, and sometimes they aren’t riding a bicycle. Ha-ha! Anyway, there was a race. Many Santa Rosa folks, and many from abroad, and many from Cleveland, and Paris, raced their bikes. And then, there was one fella who used substandard tracking foils on his dimster-splitter (in the front gulf), and he crashed. Which lead to a chain reaction. An ugly, FATAL one. Many cyclists perished, BUT ALL WAS NOT LOST!! Santa Rosa is crafty, so they bandied together and took all of those smashed bikes and created a tribute to the bikers who bravely gave their lives to race that race. They actually built a giant tower crafted from all the destroyed bicycles; bic...

Bike Hitch Rack

Bike hitch rack is advertised as easy to put together out of the box, and easy to use once you are ready to ride. Both of these statements are completely true. We have one man's and one woman's comfort bikes, and the different length center main clamps of the rack are perfectly suited to these differences in bike design. The  hitch mount rack  is very easy to insert and lock into our trailer hitch and the bikes are extremely easy to load, requiring only a minimal lift and support to set and lock them into the rack. Definitely truth in adding. We bought this bike hitch rack after experiencing serious damages to both our bikes from using another popular style/name brand carrier. This carrier is, by far, easy to use and superior to anything we ever had. We added a front custom hitch to our truck, and now the bikes are low enough we can see through our windshield when traveling. They are 100% secure, with no bouncing or damage to our aluminum bike frames.

BIKE RACKS FOR SUVS

SUV's have become one of the   most popular choices for family cars   because they are so flexible in cargo and passenger capabilities as well as adaptation to varied terrain. Naturally, people who own an SUV and who love to bike will also need special bike racks for SUV's. Probably the most popular type of bike rack for SUVs today are the roof mount type. An SUV of course has a different profile than a sedan or sports model vehicle. It is generally larger and taller than a regular passenger car and has a rear door rather than a trunk lid in the back. Bike racks for SUV's need to fit the back of the vehicle securely as well as providing a rear view that is as unobstructed as possible. Probably the two most popular choices in bike racks for SUV's are the roof mounted type and the hitch mount type but there are strap on types available similar to those used on trunk mount racks. The strap on type may be preferable for those who do not have or want a trailer hitch an...
